Too expensive the customers will curse you, too cheap the government will fine you
The Ministry of Health has issued compound notices of RM51,000 to 102 cigarette dealers across the country for selling cigarettes too cheap. The minimum price set by the government is RM7.00.
Director-General of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Hasan Abdul Rahman said the operation codenamed "Ops Basuh" was conducted around the country on the 27th and 28th February this year to ensure the dealer comply with ministry guidelines under the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations 2004.
"In that operation, a total of 1,598 packs of cigarette with a total market value of RM4,923 were seized from 39 shops for the offense of selling cigarettes below minimum price," he said in a statement here.
