DESPITE living in poverty, a couple feel blessed as they have 18 children and 14 grandchildren, reported Harian Metro.
Three of their children, however, died shortly after birth.
Isa Hassan, 56, who lives in a wooden house in Kampung Pantai Pulau Kundor, Kota Baru, said his wife “will never refuse” as according to her, it was the responsibility of a wife.
Isa stressed that a harmonious marriage was not just confined to the bedroom as they should che-rish their companionship “everywhere”.
Isa married Mek Jah Yusof, 52, more than 40 years ago when he was 17 and she was 15.
They only earn between RM20 and RM40 a day and survive on vegetables (ulam) and bunga nipah.
Both Isa and Mek Jah had never taken carbonated drinks in their lives while their children had never tasted fast food such as KFC.
Because of poverty, 12 of their children had to drop out of school.
Five of their children are married and some of their 14 grandchildren return to stay with the couple occasionally.
