1 lorry, nine hours traffic jam and millions of ringgit down the drain

A trailer lorry carrying iron rods had a flat tyre at Jalan Tun Razak near the Kampung Pandan roundabout here early Friday, triggering city-bound traffic congestion for almost nine hours.

Kuala Lumpur traffic chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the lorry came to grief at 7am and blocked one lane of the road, and a van rammed into the lorry later, worsening the situation.

He said, at one point, the traffic jam stretched from the roundabout to the toll booth at the North-South Expressway, a distance of 10km.

Police tried to remove the lorry but were prevented by its weight and a faulty brake system.

"The traffic congestion continued until about 3pm, and till late at night, the lorry had not been towed away," he said. - Bernama
