If you're gay then you're a prostitute

Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender (LBGT) lifestyles have been equated to social ills like prostitution and drug abuse by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mashitah Ibrahim.

Responding to a question from Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit-BN) on steps to curb homosexuality, Mashitah said it was a "social problem".

“The (LBGT) issue has its own after-effects, which can lead to prostitution, drug abuse, psychological problems and also mental illness. We have been raising awareness on our fatwa against LBGT tendencies with heavy media publicity on the issue to raise awareness, and also about the bad effects homosexuality has on health.”

She said it was only provided to punish Muslim offenders under Syariah laws. "But then again, no religion in this country endorses such lifestyles."

Mashitah said Malaysia did not support freedom for the LBGT community although it was discussed at a United Nations convention last year.

“Part of the LBGT problem is caused by natural reasons, such as being born with two private parts and mental illness.”

Mashitah was non-committal when asked by Fuziah Salleh (Kuantan-PKR) if the federal government would consider giving the opposition funds to implement career-change programmes for transvestites in Pahang. "We already have such programmes, so you are welcome to join us in implementing those programmes," she said - Malay Mail

Circumcision gone wrong and the doctors sued

A 14-year-old boy has sued the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department and two others for negligence during a circumcision, which he claimed had left his "sexual function doubtful".

However, the department was let off the hook when High Court Judge Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof allowed its application to strike out the claim with a cost of RM1,000 (S$410) yesterday.

Case management for the claim against the two other defendants - Sunathrone Bio Medical Sdn Bhd and its medical officer adviser Dr Mohd Tasron Surat - has been fixed for April 5.

She made the order after hearing submissions by Federal Counsel Mohamad Sallehud-din Md Ali and the boy's lawyer Stefeny David in chambers.

Mohamad Muhammad Farhan, who sued through his father Ishahak Mak, said he had suffered severe injuries to his private parts as well as emotional and psychological disturbance due to their negligence after taking part in a mass circumcision programme on Nov 16, 2008.

He said there were 357 participants in the event known as Program Sunathon Perdana Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan at Masjid Al-Muqarrabin in Bandar Tasik Selatan.

District police chief Superintendent Azid Ismail said police spotted Nor Nabilah Mat Yaakob with her boyfriend outside a 24-hour convenience store in Taman Tas about 10pm on Wednesday.

More money changers are now hiring bodyguards to protect themselves and their families from criminals and rival groups.

Johor Bodyguard Association secretary Mohd Firdaus Moham-med Amirrudin said previously, politicians topped the list of those who employed bodyguards but the trend had recently changed.

There have been several reports involving money changers being robbed recently.

Mohd Firdaus said the association received many applications from money changers who wanted to have a bodyguard for security.

"Most of our members are former police officers and soldiers who have years of experience as bodyguards," he told The Star after the association's annual general meeting here yesterday.

Mohd Firdaus said the association would usually conduct checks on their clients to ensure that they themselves were not involved in criminal activities.

"Only after that do we send our bodyguards to them," he said.

He also said the association would also carry out checks on new members to ensure they had no criminal records.

Mohd Firdaus said their clients also preferred hiring female bodyguards to protect their wives and children, adding that many were not comfortable having male bodyguards to watch over their wives and daughters.

"In Johor, we have about 53 members and only two are women.

"The association encourages more women to become bodyguards as there is a demand for them," he said.

"We would work with the Home Ministry and other government agencies to promote the association and encourage more people to join the industry especially women," he said, adding that a bodyguard earned about RM5,000 (S$2,067) a month - The Star

Welcome to Malaysia, you can come in anytime you like and you don't have to leave

Police sources said the number of illegal immigrants in the country had surpassed the 1.2 million figure that had been bandied about as the "estimated official" number.

"We have seen a significant increase in foreigners' involvement in criminal activities and most of the time, they are not those who are employed legally in the country.

"Even genuine tourists are being victimised by these foreigners, let's not even talk about Malaysian themselves being conned, harmed and killed by these people," they said.

The caterer thought they were going to carry the pot and serve the rice to guests and thought nothing of it when they carried it away.

Only later did the hosts realise that someone had stolen the pot of rice and the situation soon turned chaotic when guests who were already hungry found out that there was no rice for them at the wedding reception.

Someone later informed them that he had seen the two men carting the pot away in a lorry, which was driven by a third person. Speaking to reporters at his house here yesterday, Saad said he later found out the culprits were from the same neighbourhood.- NST

Medical doctors beware! Soon you will be out of jobs

The Health Ministry has been urged to introduce guidelines to distinguish between genuine and fake shamans (locally called "bomohs').

Such guidelines should be formulated to protect the interest of patients who wish to be healed by shaman, said Executive Chairman of Yashfien Herbs Treatment Centre Sdn Bhd, Datuk Engku Ansaruddin Agus.

"Action is necessary to ensure that fake shamans do not tarnish the entire shaman profession," he said in the program "The Radar" published by Bernama Radio24 yesterday.

Ansaruddin said the Health Ministry can work with the religious authorities like Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to identify the said shamans.

"This is a fact that should be known by the community. I call on the people not to be fooled by fake shamans," he said.

Maybe "bomoh" should be allowed to use the word doctor in front of their names, for example Dr Pok Leh. And maybe JAKIM should start a medical college for "bomohs" and then start issuing MBBS degrees. Then we have Dr Pok Leh, MBBS (JAKIM)(Halal)

Hey government, give us back our English or we won't vote for you

The government needs to place someone qualified at the helm of the nation's education, reinstate learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI), and transform the education system or risk losing votes.

That was the sentiment shared by almost 200 participants of a gathering of concerned parental groups from all over Malaysia at Dataran Petaling Jaya this morning.

In 2009, the government declared that PPSMI will be abolished and be replaced with Upholding Bahasa Malaysia and Strengthening English (MBMMBI), a system that reinstates the national language as the medium to teach Mathematics and Science subjects.

"This is the climax of our efforts," said Shamsudin Hamid, the coordination chairman of Concerned Parents of Selangor.

He also warned that parents do not want their children's education to be politicised.

If nothing is done to rectify the situation, the government may lose votes in the upcoming election, he added - The Sun

College student raped by "batman"

Talk is rife among locals that a supernatural being is targeting women in the city following an incident where a dark figure wearing Batman attire trespassed into a female dormitory and raped a 19-year-old college student.

The victim, from Kuala Lumpur, was raped on Wednesday night while she was alone in her room.

However, State Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Gan Tian Loo scoffed at the claims made by certain quarters that the figure was a supernatural being.

He has called for a thorough investigation into the crime.

“How could Batman' or a ghost enter a female hostel and commit rape? This is the work of a human who dons the fictional superhero's attire to avoid being detected,” he said.

Gan said a manhunt should be organised to nab the perpetrator as he might prey upon other students.

In her police report on Thursday, the victim said she was surfing the Internet at about 8.15pm in her hostel room when the mysterious figure wearing the Batman suit appeared at her side.

She said that before she could scream, the figure gagged her with a handkerchief and she blacked out.

After a few hours, the victim regained consciousness and found herself lying naked on the floor with piercing pain in her private parts.

A medical check-up the next day revealed that she was raped.

Gan said the safety of students was of utmost importance as such a crime had previously occurred here - The Star

Some Sons Are.......... (Fill In The Blank)

THE woeful tale of a bedridden senior citizen abandoned by her son at a budget hotel in Kuala Lumpur stole the headlines in Harian Metro.

Johor native Faridah Maulud, 66, was left to her own devices by her 27-year-old son over the past week after she moved down to the city a month ago at the behest of her son.

She was found lying on the floor of her room by hotel employees, who grew suspicious after her son failed to pay four days' rent.

Hotel manager Tan Yew Meng said Faridah's son checked her into the hotel and only came to pay for the RM60 per night room every other day.

The son however stopped paying after March 3 and attempts to contact him were in vain.

Despite that, the hotel staff members, out of compassion for Faridah, cared for her, bathing, feeding and changing her diapers.

“I don't even know where my son lives or why he left me. Thankfully, the hotel staff members have been very kind to me and bought me food. Thank you ... I want to go to an old folk's home,” Faridah said.

Tan said the hotel had lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station.

The imam who threw a pair of shoes at three Federal Court judges over an unfavourable decision against him has been jailed a year for contempt of court.

Federal Court judge Datuk Suryadi Halim Omar did not mince his words with Hoslan Hussin, 46, before sentencing was delivered by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin today.

Calling Hoslan rude and arrogant, Suryadi, who was on the panel on the day of the incident on Feb 22, said: "In my view, the incident is very embarrassing to people who hold religious positions in Malaysia.

"You are an imam, you know imam are looked upon highly, have high level of knowledge, high level of politeness... however, you did not show any of this attitude.

"In fact, you are arrogant, rude and violent and did not show any respect at all. You came to the court as you had trust in the court. However, when you did not succeed due to your own incompetent act, you acted in such a way.

"I cannot accept such an act. This institution should be respected. Now, you face the consequences."

After sentencing, Hoslan, who was clad in black jubah and wearing a green and white turban, was immediately detained.

Hoslan faced a contempt of court charge when he threw a pair of shoes at the Federal Court bench which was in proceedings between 10.15am and 10.30am on Feb 22.

If you don't have RM5 with you, your friends will dump you into a drain

A man was knocked out cold and dumped in a drain by his so-called friends after he failed to cough up RM5 for them to buy a bottle of cheap liquor.

The incident happened around 4pm on Tuesday when the victim, in his 20s, went for a car ride with his three friends after they had earlier fetched him from his house at Malihah in Matang.

Along the way, the friends decided to buy a bottle of liquor and asked him for RM5, but they became angry when he told them he did not have any money on him.

They allegedly assaulted him and struck his head with a brick — knocking him out cold — before dumping him inside a small drain at Sungai Cina, also in Matang.

He regained consciousness after several minutes and sought the help of a nearby resident to send him home, before making his way to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment later the same night.

A police report of the incident has been lodged - Borneo Post

If you are a Malaysian and a woman, chances are 25% you will die of heart attack

When 58-year-old Rita (not her real name) experienced episodes of gastric pain and chest fullness, she put it down to the effects of ageing and did not give it much thought.

When the problem persisted, she went to see a general practitioner who prescribed her gastric medication.

One night after a bad episode of "gastritis", Rita, who has a family history of heart disease and has high blood pressure, took her gastric medication and went to bed.

She never woke up. She died of a heart attack in her sleep.

Scary as it sounds, many women, especially those in the post menopausal age, have no inkling that they could be suffering from cardiovascular diseases as unlike men, they rarely display the classic symptoms of a heart attack such as chest pain.

Dr Jeyamalar Rajadurai says many are unaware that cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death among women in Malaysia.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is now the main cause of medically-certified deaths among Malaysian women, with one in four dying of heart failure.

Scammers fleeced stupid Malaysians RM620 million for the past three years

Malaysians lured into investing in illegal interest schemes have been fleeced of at least RM620 million over the past three years.

The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), concerned over the rise of such scams, published an advertorial in the wake of recent complaints over a Canadian land-banking scheme to remind investors of the risks involved.

Commission legal services division director Mohamed Sufyan Mohd Mokhtar said the number of the illegal schemes rose from 120 in 2009 to 151 in 2010 and 150 last year.

"An interest scheme is a form of investment in a medium other than shares and debentures (unsecured loans) involving the pooling of public funds to finance the business activities of a company," Mohamed Sufyan said.

In return, participants are offered a specific return on their investment in the form of money, benefits or facilities.

"A common modus operandi involves convincing people to make a one-off investment in a business endeavour that is managed entirely by the operator," Mohamed Sufyan said.

Another is to convince investors to build their own business (often with a buyback guarantee) on the condition that they purchase their training and equipment from the operator. "The operators are creative," cautioned Mohamed Sufyan.

A few years ago, agriculture and its products (like lemon grass, leeches, earthworms, seaweed) were very popular.

Recent products include livestock (swiflets and arowana fish), plantations (palm oil, jatropha and agarwood), leisure and property development (holiday homes and hotels), equipment (ice-cream, ICT and water-vending machines) and gold - The Star

Choose your scam - Nigerian scam, Bukit Aman scam or crying child scam

Police have identified a syndicate that uses the sound of a crying child to dupe parents into believing their child had been kidnapped and gets them to pay ransom.

Only later do the parents realise the child had been safe in school, all along.

Serdang Commercial Crimes Investigation department chief Asst Supt Azani Saupi said his men had identified the syndicate that had tricked at least four victims into handing over a total sum of RM57,000.

“After the victims bank in or place the money in a specified post box, there is no communication. Only later do they realise their children had been safe in school,” he said during a press conference at the Serdang district police headquarters on Thursday.

He said parents, who receive the purported kidnapper’s call, hear a crying child and immediately panic into thinking it was their child and follow instructions from the syndicate without double checking to ascertain if their child had indeed been abducted.

ASP Azani said investigations revealed the syndicate did background checks on their victims such as the way the children call their parents.
