Hey government, give us back our English or we won't vote for you

The government needs to place someone qualified at the helm of the nation's education, reinstate learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI), and transform the education system or risk losing votes.

That was the sentiment shared by almost 200 participants of a gathering of concerned parental groups from all over Malaysia at Dataran Petaling Jaya this morning.

In 2009, the government declared that PPSMI will be abolished and be replaced with Upholding Bahasa Malaysia and Strengthening English (MBMMBI), a system that reinstates the national language as the medium to teach Mathematics and Science subjects.

"This is the climax of our efforts," said Shamsudin Hamid, the coordination chairman of Concerned Parents of Selangor.

He also warned that parents do not want their children's education to be politicised.

If nothing is done to rectify the situation, the government may lose votes in the upcoming election, he added - The Sun
