With just sweet words a woman earned thousands of dollars after luring unsuspected victims to attend an interview and seminar. The woman made use of internet and advertising banners to attract her victims to attend the non-existent interview and seminar.
To convince the victims, the suspect in her 30's booked rooms and hall at a local hotel using check from a suspended account. Each selected participant for the interview and seminar was charged RM200 allegedly for food and lodging.
The fraud has been detected since last June in the North West of Kedah and Perak with five police reports lodged so far.
The suspect normally advertised on the Internet and banners around Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok supposedly of a grand opening a new religious school in Kuala Lumpur. The advertisement called for some staff to manage the school, including religious teachers. Interested victims would be asked to attend an interview and seminar on school management.
The victims realized they were cheated after they could not contact the woman and the seminar as advertised did not materialize.
In addition, the hotel was also short-charged when the check issued by the woman was not honored.
Deputy Director I, Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman, Datuk Tajudin said he had received five police report on the woman's modus operandi in Kedah since last June.
